Inspiration for the Unicorn paintings

Inspiration for the Unicorn paintings

artist's note: I was profoundly touched, moved and inspired by a little book about unicorns I first picked up for 50¢ at a garage sale a few years ago. These Unicorn paintings are directly influenced from illustrations from this book, "De Historia et Veritate Unicornis (On the History and Truth of the Unicorn), The Facsimile and Translation of An Original Manuscript"  discovered and annotated by Michael Green, Running Press Book Publishers, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1983

Unicorn Drinks

Unicorn Drinks

Unicorn drinks from a woodland waterfall

Legend has it that Unicorns only drink from waterfalls of the purest source.

Unicorns are important to our evolution

Unicorns are important to our evolution

Unicorns are a unique species. They are not horses with horns. As humanity is at the brink of a broad awakening, it is time for Unicorns to reemerge into our awareness, and important that we understand their true form. It is easier to see them, and for them to appear to us, if we do not have an incorrect preconceived notion of their likeness.

Unicorns  have been part of our Earth experience from the beginning.  It has only been mankind's descent into the lower vibrations of war and conflict that has separated us from the realms we used to share with the Unicorn.  When we could not see them anymore, we denied their existence. However, many clues in story, art and tapestries point towards their existence and beneficial attributes.

They have patiently waited on the outskirts of our awareness for a very long time.  Unicorns offer us an opportunity to expand our consciousness  and include their assistance in raising our vibration.

Return of the Golden Age

Return of the Golden Age

A Unicorn and a Priestess converse by a stream  "I remember my innocence and my magical connection with the natural world."

A healed and open heart receives communion from the magical aspects of Nature. The unicorn connects with our open heart — and through the path of healed emotions and clear perceptions we can see them again. Innocence is remembered through self love, and the spell of "lost innocence" is broken forever.

The Unicorn suggests the spiraling aspects of time travel and eternity. They represent innocence, purity, pristine intelligence, pure heart and mastery of physical immortality. Unicorns want to be known to humanity again. They are a secret blessing of our origin that has been clouded through the lie of their nonexistence. It is only that men’s hearts were closed that they could not see the unicorn anymore and then claimed that unicorns did not exist.

Red and White Rose bush represents the Sacred Feminine. She is the symbol of the Goddess (white for Her ability to produce milk, the nectar of life and red for Her menstrual blood, the alchemy of feminine power and fertility). Butterfly symbolizes transformation. At every stage in their life, they take on a completely different physical form. One can parallel the butterfly’s life to many situations we experience.  For example when we have a new idea, it is like the egg. As our excitement grows, we gather information like the caterpillar.  At some point we must digest and compile all of our new findings. When we are ready to bring it all into the open, the butterfly emerges spreading its wings.

Never Alone

Never Alone

In a dark forest, a unicorn guides a weary traveler "Yea though I walk through the shadow of death . . . thou art with me."

We are never alone. When we experience the "dark night of the soul," our innocence leads us, as well as the spirits of those who have gone before us. The unicorn represents our connection to purity, which serves as our guide. "Purity within" is the light that will carry us through the darkness into the light.

Tan Ran Reki symbols:
Oh Ru Kah (above the Unicorn) blocks psychic attack by ill-intentioned sorcerers, and assures us safety in our travels. Sei He Ki (top left) provides a safe place for emotional healing. The symbol allows us to confront old wounds and release our need for external validation. This is a place where the inner child can heal and experience self-love. Doh Yah Noh (top right) is the sentry — the ever watchful protector. It symbolizes an alert intelligence which protects us until we learn how to protect ourselves. Likened to a psychic bandage, it covers vulnerable areas that require healing.

Destruction and Renewal

Destruction and Renewal

A tidal destroys a city while a Unicorn and a priestess watch in safety

What is not in harmony with the whole must be destroyed or the balance of the entire system is at stake. Alignment with a false self and the ego can only lead to disaster in the end. The blessing is that when our shallow world falls apart, an opportunity to rebuild new lives based on love, balance, and authenticity begins.

This painting shows the turmoil that can come from not living within the nature of balance. The priestess stands calmly, knowing that with destruction comes renewal. She is forming the hand mudra for love, and connecting to the purity of the Unicorn ready to lead others into a land where people respect the earth and love one another.

Tan Ran Reiki symbols:
Deh Boh Nah (top right) reverses ego conditioning and the compulsion to create a false image of ourselves.  Ra Ku (within the lightening bolt) is an electrical energy and is related to kundalini.  Representing primal force, Ra ku harnesses and grounds this energy stimulating evolution and positive change.

This original painting is 18"h x 24"w and has SOLD.
